Kisii Deputy Governor Under Fire For Paying DP Ruto Visit

A delegation of political leaders was led to the DP’s home by Kisii county deputy governor Joash Maangi following an invite by the deputy president.
Ruto is said to have invited all leaders including governors and senators from the two counties but only a few chose to visit.
“Yesterday I led goodwill delegation of leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties to visit the Deputy President Hon. William Samoei Ruto at his Sugoi home. During the visit, the leaders assured the Deputy President of their commitment to National unity and peace for all communities living in Kenya. The deputy President praised the leaders for their teamwork irrespective of political party affiliations,” Maangi said after the visit.
However, residents from both counties have expressed their dissatisfaction at the visit, terming it an egoistic move aimed at benefitting the individuals and not the Omogusii community.
Commenting on the deputy governor’s post, the residents told him and reminded him that 2017 is just around the corner.

“Goodwill indeed. You guys went there on your own volition. Not representing Omogusii. Stop lying to Ruto that he has the kisii votes,” Andrew Ongori ranted.

“I doubt whether you will address any rally within kisii in near future without being booed coz you seem to be used. Ruto has nothing at heart for kisii furthermore it’s devolution time hence your visit was self seeking….you are a disgrace to entire kisii community…you goofed,” Samson Bundi added.

“Joash Maangi, you are a disgrace to yourself and my community. You are a politically walking dead. It’s unfortunate you are led by your stomach in every political move you make. Have we been at war with anyone that we seek to assure Ruto of peace? Why is Ruto afraid of visiting Gusii?” Felix Ondieki questioned.

“All the respect i had for you is gone, common sense will dictate that Ruto is the one who could have come to kisii with development projects for omogusii, you cannot purport that u went to represent us without our good will.we treat that as a personal visit to benefit yourself,” Denis Ondeyo said.

“Did you inform the governor or the people of kisii that you were going to the DPs home ? Public issues should be discussed in public facilities not individual’s homes,” Johnson Matuga added.
Kisii and Nyamira counties are overwhelmingly CORD strongholds and this could explain why residents are bitter about the visit.

Governors and senators in both counties were elected through a CORD ticket and this is believed to be the reason why they boycotted the visit.
CORD leader Raila is currently in Kisii county where he is holding consultations with Governor James Ongwae.
